Last time, we got a huge drama bomb planted on us by Sephiroth, check it out!
Let’s continue on to our supposed execution, shall we?
Oddly enough, saving or talking to a guard allows Barret to be miraculously free of his bonds for a moment while the text box is up, but goes back to normal when it disappears.
We enter a room full of people and reporters, and Scarlet informs us that they are doing a public execution.
He unties Barret, who tries to rescue Tifa, but the door is locked.
They go to leave the room to try to find a way in, but Scarlet locks the door behind them!
Cait Sith tells Barret they need to head to the airport.
We also pick up Yuffie along the way.
As Tifa, we deftly grab the key with our legs and managed to unlock ourselves and shut off the gas.
The door is still locked, however.
They fire the weapon, but Weapon keeps on attacking!
Just then, Weapon retaliates, shredding a section of the building, but Rufus’ own weapon, the huge cannon, literally does a point-blank shot on the Weapon, obliterating it’s head clean off.
Tifa quickly scrambles out of the hole that the Weapon made, with Scarlet and company right on her heels.
We end up at the end of the cannon, with Scarlet and some guards, who trap us.
Tifa and Scarlet end up slapping each other silly for a bit, until Scarlet gets fed up and orders the guards to grab Tifa.
She hears a voice, and begins to run to the end of the cannon, where a huge airship and Barret manage to rescue Tifa!
On the airship, the Highwind, we find out that the crew of the Highwind were sick of working of Shinra and after talking with Cid, decided to join us to help.
We speak with everyone on board, and Red tells us that perhaps Cloud is still alive, deep in the earth, where the Weapons came from.
Cid tells us to check out the ship, so we do.
The Highwind has a place where we can rest, save, and sort our party.
We bring along Tifa, Yuffie and Vincent.
It also has a chocobo stable for any chocobos we catch.
We talk to the pilot and head out.
As any good airship, we can now fly pretty much our heart’s content!
We travel around and find Mideel. We buy some things, and hear from one of the townsfolk that a man washed up on shore a week ago!
Tifa runs to the clinic and finds Cloud in a near catatonic state.
The doctor explains that Cloud has severe Mako poisoning, greater than he has ever seen.
Tifa comforts Cloud, who is wheel-chair bound.
After a moment, Tifa says that she is staying behind with Cloud to help him recover.
They are heading to Corel next, and then Fort Condor.
With that, we head back to the Highwind and Barret elects Cid as the new leader.
Despite being a bit apprehensive at first, he agrees, so we head to the operations room to form a new party.
Barret tells us on the way out that we are heading to Corel.
We arrive and quickly make our way to the reactor and are met with some resistance.
We see the train beginning to leave with the huge materia, and Cid jumps on another train car and we speed up to it.
We have 10 minutes before it crashes into Corel, and we have to fight various fights as we climb to the front of the train to stop it.
We eventually make it and stop the train, and as a reward, we get the Ultima Materia!
We also pick up Barret’s level 4 Limit, Catastrophe!
We then make our way to Fort Condor, to stop them from getting the Huge Materia there.
In Fort Condor, we are tasked with fighting off Shinra. You are supposed to buy units, equipment, and place them on the map, but I never do, I just fight this thing when it reaches us after a few minutes.
An old man gives us the Huge Materia and we decide to check in on Cloud in Mideel.
In Mideel, we find that Cloud’s condition hasn’t really improved. As we are speaking with the doctor, the whole place begins to shake!
Apparently, the life stream is going nuts, and one of the Weapons is heading this way!
We fight the Ultimate Weapon, whose first attack nearly kills us. Great.
This fight is really just about staying alive. After a few turns, he runs off.
The whole place begins to just fall apart, and Cid and the others have to leave town, but they yell to Tifa and Cloud to get out while they can.
Tifa tries to wheel Cloud out, but the town crumbles, and takes both of them into the lifestream.
What follows is essentially a very long cutscene as Cloud and Tifa try to find out Cloud’s true self.
We eventually stumble upon the fact that yes, Cloud did not enter Nibelheim like he said, Zach did.
But, Cloud was indeed there, just as a Shinra soldier.
Cloud admits that he tried to join Soldier, but he didn’t make the cut, and he merely became a part of Shinra as a regular guard.
He was one of the guards that came with Zach and Sephiroth, but he lied about his role in the memory, removing Zach, but placing himself in Zach’s place in his stories.
He wanted to join Soldier so that he could become stronger and get the attention of Tifa, who he apparently had a crush on.
It is also revealed that Cloud stabbed Sephiroth as he attacked Tifa in the reactor.
Sephiroth escaped, Cloud ran after him after helping Tifa and was stabbed by Sephiroth, but managed to throw Sephiroth off into what looked like some sort of lifestream.
Cloud mentions how he has to stop the Meteor, since he blames himself for it.
Everyone agrees to help, and we all become a party again.
We also learn that there is an underwater reactor beneath Junon, which houses a Huge Materia, and that we should head there next, so we do.
With Cloud in party, we bring along Red and Vincent.
We head to Junon and make our way into the underwater reactor. There, we fight our way through and find Reno, who is loading the Huge Materia onto some kind of submarine.
He sics a robot on us and we fight!
This thing is one of the toughest bosses we have faced so far. Only because of one move, Lapis Laser. It deals almost 1500 damage to the whole party, making it an extremely powerful move at this point.
In addition, it can also pick up party members, making them unable to do anything, and then slam them onto the ground, dealing pretty decent damage.
My first try, I got a game over when he used Lapis Laser twice in quick succession, ending the party.
Second try, Vincent just kept getting hammered, so he had to stay down. I ran out of Cure2 Alls near the end, but thankfully, he went down shortly after that.
We continue our assault and head to one of the other submarines to give chase.
We kick out some guards and do a small minigame where we have to chase and shoot down the red sub carrying the Huge Materia. All the while avoiding mines scattered about the area.
It literally took a little over 30 seconds. 20 of which was figuring out the controls.
We find this thing just swimming around down here. Best to avoid it for now.
We also find a hidden key, the Key of the Ancients to be exact.
We take it with us, we will need this later.
We make our way to Rocket Town, and when we arrive, we find Shinra is attempting to hijack Cid’s rocket! He comes with us and fight our way inside, taking out one of the Turks, Rude, along the way.
There, the rocket takes off, with the Huge Materia on board! They plan to try to blow up Meteor with it!
Cid takes a moment to admire outer space, now that he actually made it.
Cid tells us there is an escape pod on the rocket, so we head that way, but first, Cloud goes to grab the Huge Materia.
When we get to it, it is blocked by a security device that requires a four button code, and we only have 3 minutes!
It takes a bit, but we eventually get it.
We run to the escape pod, but one of the oxygen tanks explodes, causing some debris to trap Cid!
He tells us to continue on without him, but of course, Cloud isn’t having that.
Then, Shera appears and helps us, and leads us safely to the escape pod.
As we descend back down to the planet, the rocket hits meteor and causes a huge explosion.
After a moment, everything clears, and we find that it damaged it, but it is still hurling toward us.
Back on Highwind, the gang discuss what they should do next, when they all hear the planet crying out.
Red suggests we head to Cosmo Canyon, so we head there now.
We get there and speak to Bugenhagen. We gather everyone up and we try to think about our next course of action.
Cloud wonders why Aeris said she was the only one who could stop Sephiroth and Meteor, and Bugenhagen asks us to take him to where Aeris was at, so we head to the Forgotten City once again.
Before that, however, we grab the Bahamut Zero materia!
We arrive at the city and look around.
We find an area that Bugenhagen gravitates to, so we stop there and have him look around.
Bugenhagen tells us that he can hear the planet. He says that in order to have a chance at stopping meteor, we need the ultimate white magic materia, Holy.
He says we need the materia, and someone needs to pray to the planet. If the materia glows, we can use Holy to potentially stop meteor.
He also tells us that when you use Holy, the planet will destroy everything that it thinks is bad, and wonders if humans are on that list.
Using the Key of the Ancients that we found earlier, we open up a projector of sorts that shows us Aeris.
We see her praying, and we see her “useless” materia from her mother. It falls down, as it did when we found her there before she was killed, and glows with a soft green light.
It dons on Cloud, that is what Aeris was doing, praying for Holy. She knew what she had to do to save the planet.
It appears she succeeded before she was killed by Sephiroth, now all that is left, is to find Holy.
When we go to leave, Cait Sith tells us that the cannon in Junon has been moved to Midgar, where they plan to kill Sephiroth with it.
Scarlet calls it the Sister Ray.
They ask Cait Sith about the Sister Ray, but he says they don’t have it complete yet, or at least, he doesn’t think they do, so they can’t defend themselves against the Weapon.
Cloud says they will just have to fight it.
We fly over and wait on the shore for the Weapon…
Diamond Weapon was actually pretty easy, with some Fire protection, Slow and Big Guard, he barely did any damage. I didn’t even have to heal, other than casting Regen to slowly heal us.
We also try out Bahamut Zero, which did some great damage.
After the fight, we get a TON of EXP and AP, enough to level our characters and equipped materia several times. We also get a huge chunk of gil as well.
In Midgar, Diamond Weapon’s energy flurry blasts part of the city, even killing Rufus, or at least, it appears so, blowing up his entire office.
Cloud says they need to check in on Sephiroth at the Norther Cave, and find out what happened.
We quickly head there and find the barrier is indeed gone.
Cait Sith then says something is wrong.
We find out that Reeve is the one behind Cait Sith.
He mentions that they can’t get a hold of the president, something is causing the cannon to malfunction, and they can’t shut it off!
They phone in, and find Hojo is messing with the system to pump Mako to Sephiroth!
Heidegger says he is now in charge and puts Reeve in handcuffs. Before he is taken, Reeve/Cait Sith begs Cloud to head to Midgar and stop Hojo before the whole of Midgar explodes.
But that is for next time! Join me then!
