We left off on a bit of a cliffhanger!
Check out the last episode!
We quickly head to Midgar, but Barret says that Midgar is under Martial Law, and they will never let us in.
Cid has the idea to just fly in, and Cloud agrees they will parachute in.
They do so with no casualties, thankfully, and we make our way underground into Midgar.
Inside we run into some annoying encounters, like this Behemoth!
This thing has powerful physical attacks, as well as being able to use Flare.
Thankfully, we deal decent damage to it, so it goes down quick.
As we make our way through this area, we find ourselves stopped by the Turks, who say
they have orders to kill us on sight.
They attack us, and boy, was it a fight!
All of them had powerful attacks. Without Big Guard, they could do some serious damage to us.
Even with it, they were relentless!
I had Tifa use Bahamut Zero at the start, which dealt some great damage. After that, she alternated between healing and Bio2 when she could.
Red and Tifa had very little MP, so the battle ended at the perfect moment before we had to start busting out the Ethers to stay alive.
With that, we go back and rest and save at the nearby save point and continue on.
We head south and pick up a myriad of stat-boosting items, and after a long trek, pick up the W-Item Materia, which lets the wielder use two items at once during battles.
After scouting around a bit, we meet with Scarlet and Heidregger, who have constructed an Anti-Weapon machine, and they plan to use it on us!
Thankfully, it is pretty weak.
We hammer away with our best attacks, and it can’t really dish out much damage in return.
It does have a ton of HP, but we whittle it away.
I thought for sure this beam attack was going to be deadly, since Big Guard had just ran out, but it did minor damage.
After the fight, it drops the Ragnarok, a very good upgrade for Cloud.
We head to the save point nearby and continue on.
On the way, we pick up Missing Score, the “ultimate” weapon for Barret. I don’t equip it, since it lowers all AP gained for materia attached to the weapon to zero.
That is the case for all of the so-called “ultimate” weapons for each of the characters.
Strong stats, but it doesn’t level up any equipped materia attached to it.
Hojo explains that he offered his unborn child to be experimented on, just for science.
He also says he has injected Jenova cells directly into his body, and he attacks us!
Hojo started off pretty weak, just throwing out little weaklings while he attacked him.
After he goes down, he morphs into an even uglier form!
This new form wasn’t that bad, he mostly used physical attacks, which Big Guard and Regen could easily weaken to the point of just a tickle.
Once that form was down, he changes into his ultimate form!
Hojo just loves to throw out status after status, especially Silence.
But with Cloud and Barret with Ribbons on, he wasted most of his turns.
He did manage to silence Tifa at one point, but Barret quickly used Esuna and had her back in the fight.
He did have a combo attack where he attacked one character a multitude of times, but with Cloud using Cover + Counter Attack, Cloud was dishing out 1000 damage every time he hit him, which meant all those attacks got countered, adding up to upwards of 5000 damage!
He went down, and the cannon is shut down before it can fire.
We head back to the Highwind and Red tells us that meteor will be upon us in seven days.
Cloud asks everyone to think about what they are fighting for, before this final battle.
He says that for him, this is a personal matter, he needs to settle his past by defeating Sephiroth.
He orders everyone to go out, speak with their loved ones, do whatever business they need to, and if they still want to fight, to come back for the final showdown.
Tifa stays, saying that she doesn’t have anyone, other than Cloud.
They share a tender moment that following night, and they sort of, admit their feelings for each other.
The next morning, they head back to the Highwind and find everyone has returned, ready to end Sephiroth once and for all!
We head out to the Northern Crater, but Cid loses control of the Highwind and nearly crash lands right on the crater.
Despite this, the Highwind is just fine and we aren’t stuck here or anything, thankfully.
But before all of that, let’s finish up some side quests, since we are on the final dungeon!
We find a hidden waterfall and inside, Lucrecia, Vincent’s lost love, who also gave birth to Sephiroth, is there!
We get a series of quick flashbacks, showing past Vincent falling in love with Lucrecia, but she didn’t want anything to do with him.
When Vincent found out about the experimentation on Lucrecia and her child, he tried to stop them, but was shot down and experimented on, giving him his powers.
Back in the present, she says the Jenova cells in her body are keeping her alive.
She asks if Sephiroth is still alive, to which Vincent says no, before Cloud can say anything.
After that, we are booted outside of the cave.
Anyway, we leave for now, since she is now gone.
Flying around, we find Ultimate Weapon just chilling, and decide to take him on!
He hits decently hard, especially with his Ultimate Beam, but nothing Big Guard + Regen couldn’t handle.
After a while, he flies away, and we have to now chase him all over the world, fighting him, and chasing him again, multiple times, until he finally waits for us at Cosmo Canyon for the final battle.
He went down without a hitch, other than the last ditch move, Shadow Flare, which killed Tifa.
That was annoying, since she missed out on all that experience. Oh well.
It also drops the Ultimate Weapon, the best weapon for Cloud, unfortunately, it doesn’t allow for Materia growth, so I leave it un-equipped for now.
Let’s start our descent into the final dungeon!
Don’t worry, you can enter and leave as often as you like, which is great.
We travel through the crater, which isn’t really that exciting. We also pick up a Save Crystal item, which allows us to drop a save point wherever we wish, so that should come in handy.
We do pick up some items, and fight some somewhat-tough monsters, but that’s it, really.
Eventually, we find the rest of the group waiting for us, and we all split up.
We use the Save Crystal here.
This thing was unrelenting, like most Tonberrys in the FF series, using a very powerful counter attack and overall having a ton of health.
I hit it with Bad Breath, which inflicted a whole host of status on it, one of which was poison, which helped.
We eventually downed it, after throwing out many a Cure 3’s and a few Phoenix Downs.
We travel through part of the dungeon, grabbing a few nice Materias along the way, such as Magic Counter, Mega All and others.
We also fought a King Behemoth, a nasty thing that hits pretty hard, but also counters magic with Comet 2!
After grabbing most of the treasure inside, I go ahead and leave the final dungeon for now.
We head back to the hidden waterfall cave, but Lucrecia still isn’t there.
Instead, we find Vincent’s ultimate weapon and Limit Break, the Death Penalty and Chaos, respectively.
Next, we head back to Bone Village and dig up the Key to Sector 5, which we will use shortly, but first, we put Red in our party and head back to Cosmo Canyon.
There, we find Bugenhagen is sick, and Red rushes to his side. Cloud and the others give Red and his grandfather some distance.
Bugenhagen urges Red to go out and see the world, and before his final breath, gives Red his ultimate weapon, the Limited Moon.
Red tells Cloud and the others that Bugenhagen merely left, keeping his grandfather’s demise to himself.
With that, we head back to Midgar to see what that key opens up!
We get to the market, where a machine was once guarded by a machine gun that would fire on us.
There, with our new-found key, we are allowed entry and get Tifa’s ultimate weapon, the Premium Heart!
Next, we head underwater with the sub and find an odd sunken plane of sorts.
Cloud wonders what this shinra ship is doing here.
Leaving the ship, we head to Rocket Town to pick up Cid’s ultimate weapon.
We talk to the old man who keeps staring up at the rocket a few times, and he gives us the Venus Gospel in return!
With that, we head back to the Northern Crater to take down Sephiroth once and for all!
There is still quite a bit that can be done, chocobo breeding and racing, beating more of the weapons, but I think it is about time to end this play-through.
Join me next time for the final showdown and the finale of Final Fantasy 7!
